Nigerian Artists that left Banking Job for The Entertainment Industry


The bank job is among the most sort after jobs in Nigeria at least before the the recent era of massive retrenchments in the banking sector in recent times. However, the hype of the banking industry was not strong enough to hold down the passion of these Nigerian celebrities who ditched banking foe their passion in
the entertainment industry.  These Nigerian artists left banking to follow their passion:



Obiwon: Obiora Nwokolobia Agu who is popularly known as Obiwon or Obiora Obiwon was born on the 9th of June, 1977 and he is an indigene of Udi in Enugu state. Obiwon is a graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He got a job in one of the leading banks in Nigeria and was doing music alongside. He later resigned to pursue his musical career. He released “Onyinye” which later became a hit song.  Obiwon currently is a gospel musician he changed his type of music from secular to gospel music and his name from Obiwon to Obiora Obiwon. He has released gospel songs like bunibe, floodgate and many more that is receiving air play. Obiwon is married and blessed with two kids and has won several awards.

Mayorkun: Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel who is also known Mayorkun hails from Osun state and was born in 1993. Mayorkun is the son of Nigerian popular actress Toyin Adewale. Mayorkun is a graduate of University of Lagos. He was working in the bank before he left. In fact, he was about moving to another bank, when he got a call from Davido and today his banking career is history.  Mayorkun is currently signed to HKN label and have released a hit song titled “eleko”.

Femi Jacobs: Femi Jacobs is not new to the entertainment industry. He has featured in many movies and soap opera like tinsel. Born on the 8th of may, Femi Jacobs studied mass communication at Lagos state university, marketing management at Lagos Business school. Femi is also a trained pilot. Although, Femi Jacobs is well known as an actor due to his great performance in the award wining movie- "The meeting", he is also recording artist and a chorister in one of Nigeria's mega churches in Lagos. Femi also left the banking industry to follow his passion in the entertainment industry.
